Creative Schools is an ambitious programme, that aims to create a step change in the way cultural education in east London is planned, delivered, and financed.

One of the first projects funded through A New Direction’s London Cultural Education Challenge (2015-18), Creative Schools was developed as the flagship programme of the East London Cultural Education Partnership (ELCEP), a consortium of cultural education organisations led by Barbican / Guildhall School of Music & Drama; six east London Music Education Hubs representing eight local authorities; 70+ cultural and education organisations; and A New Direction (A.N.D).

By bringing east London cultural and education organisations together, Creative Schools joined up experience, knowledge and expertise to explore place-based approaches to brokering, developing and delivering creative learning opportunities in schools in order to improve access to east London’s incredible arts and cultural assets for all children and young people.

Between 2015-17 the programme was overseen by a Steering Group of East London cultural education leaders including.

Creative Schools is supported by A New Direction, with funding from Arts Council England through Bridge funds, and is part of the London Cultural Education Challenge, an ambitious £900,000 three year programme designed to bring about a step-change in Cultural Education and young people’s cultural engagement in London.
